About Us

Kazenodaichi Taiko was born out of the taiko class started at Bowling Green State University by Paul Yoon in 2006. Kazenodaichi was originally a student organization composed of members who wanted to learn more complex songs outside of the class, and began in 2009. Over the years, students were able to enjoy learning in large and small group settings, and students who continued into the student org expanded their studies and furthered their skills until graduation.

As all good things do, the class at BGSU eventually ended, but the student org lived on through its members beyond graduation, and they continued to give performances to local events such as the Japanese Club’s Ohanami Festival and the Black Swamp Arts Festival. Eventually, Kazenodaichi Taiko shifted focus to becoming a community group and was able to acquire the unused equipment. In 2019, we formed an LLC to continue our mission to bring the joy of playing taiko to the Northwest Ohio area.
