Apprenticeship

The apprenticeship program is designed to train new students at an accelerated course of study with the goal of becoming a performing member.

Requirements:

·         Must be at least 18 years old.

·         Must attend the 1 hour long apprentice rehearsals offered once a week on Sundays.

·         Must attend the 2 hour long performing member’s rehearsals occurring once a week on Sundays.

·         Encouraged to attend performances. Performances are not required, but performance opportunities may become available during apprenticeship.

It is expected of the apprentice to make every effort to come to every rehearsal when held. Exceptions can be made due to illness or emergency.

Apprentices will have access to all of our training videos and any other resources needed to help with their study.

During the apprenticeship, the apprentice will learn at least four songs, and become performance ready on at least one song. As an apprentice learns new songs, they will learn to play a chu-daiko (medium sized drum)  or shime-daiko (small tempo drum) part and develop an understanding of all other parts in the song.

The apprenticeship ends when the apprentice requests to become a Performing Member after meeting the Performing Member requirements. To become a Performing Member, one must be able to competently perform three to five songs on either chu-daiko or shime-daiko, and know all parts of each song. They must be able to attend a majority of practices and performances.
