Apprenticeship

We are not currently accepting new apprentices.

The apprenticeship program is designed to train new students at an accelerated course of study with the goal of becoming a performing member.

Requirements:

·         Must be at least 18 years old.

·         Must attend the 1 hour long apprentice rehearsals offered once a week on Sundays.

·         Attending the 2 hour long performing member’s rehearsals after apprentice practices are encouraged to learn more.

·         Encouraged to attend performances. Performances are not required, but performance opportunities may become available during apprenticeship.

It is expected of the apprentice to make every effort to come to every rehearsal when held. Exceptions can be made due to illness or emergency.

Apprentices will have access to all of our training videos and any other resources needed to help with their study.

During the first year of the apprenticeship, the apprentice will learn and become performance ready on approximately two to three songs. As an apprentice learns new songs, they will learn to play a chu-daiko (medium sized drum)  or shime-daiko (small tempo drum) part and develop an understanding of all other parts in the song.

The apprenticeship ends after a total of two years, with year two focusing on refinement and learning more songs and/or other parts to learned songs.
